Prefer to design with wood? Here are two innovations you need to know.

Wood is in a category by itself.
For warmth, for classic beauty, for the connection to nature, wood stands apart.
Yet, as strong and sustainable as wood is, it’s also vulnerable to the elements over time.

Designing buildings and homes with wood windows and doors in mind can be a challenge until you know what innovations are available to you.

Here are two that can make a big difference in your next project.
One is wood. One is virtually indistinguishable from wood.
Both outperform all expectations.

You can design for wood windows, even in coastal environments.

AuraLast® pine is proven to resist rot, water damage, and termites.

Never hesitate to specify real wood windows, patio doors, and wall systems. AuraLast® pine from JELD-WEN lets you bring your residential designs to life with the warmth of wood, with protection that virtually eliminates the reliability challenges associated with wood.

AuraLast is a revolutionary vacuum-pressure treatment process that protects wood to the core. It offers effective, longer lasting protection than most wood treatment products on the market, where wood is dipped in chemical solvents that only protect near the surface.

AuraLast pine resists rot and water saturation and repels termites. Like regular pine, it can be painted or stained.

Using AuraLast pine in addition to exterior aluminum cladding essentially doubles down on the window’s durability. While aluminum cladding adds rich, lasting color (thanks to the superior finish of AAMA 2605 or 2604 paint) and minimizes exterior maintenance, the protection it provides can still be compromised by vulnerable wood beneath. AuraLast-saturated wood beneath the cladding ensures that the window is fully protected from the inside out.

The benefits of AuraLast are built into our finest wood window product lines: Siteline®, for outstanding design versatility; EpicVue®, for contemporary glass walls; and Custom™ Wood, for any shape, size, or spec you can imagine. We also offer exterior trim components featuring AuraLast protection for projects that require windows without exterior cladding, such as historical renovations. Combine AuraLast innovation with wood windows, patio doors, and wall systems engineered for aesthetics and reliable performance, and you have a suite of solutions that match your vision and are built to last.

AuraLast® pine components are backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty for owner-occupied single-family residential use, offering peace of mind for the homeowner, the builder, and you. Commercial applications are backed by a 20-Year Limited Warranty.*

AuraLast® delivers proven protection

To test AuraLast’s capabilities, we placed two wooden structures atop termite colonies in Hilo, Hawaii, one of the wettest places on Earth. One untreated structure included a wood window purchased from a local lumberyard. The second untreated structure featured a window made from AuraLast pine.

In a matter of months, the locally-bought wood window and both untreated structures were decimated. The AuraLast window was untouched and operational. All it needed was a wipe down and paint.

You can design a custom door that looks virtually indistinguishable from wood — and lasts.

Doors handcrafted one at a time for outstanding aesthetics and durability.

Strong enough to serve both commercial and high-end residential applications, these luxury entry doors stand up to any climate — hot or cold, wet or dry — with stable construction that resists scratches and dents and ensures consistent color, hardness, and gloss.

Every door starts with a real wood door, expertly crafted and selected for its beauty and woodgrain detail, which is transferred via an advanced molding process into a multilayer fiberglass skin that’s exceptionally stable and strong. Each door is constructed individually with solid frames and a high-density core that delivers robust insulating properties. Stain is hand-applied numerous times to bring out the character of the woodgrain.

What sets fiberglass doors apart? Design and aesthetic capabilities. The details are truly up to you. Select your door from an expansive selection of existing designs, from flush contemporary to Old World rustic to American traditional – glazed or solid. Choose from dozens of stain or paint options or specify a custom color. Explore hundreds of glass designs or create your own.

No matter what you specify, your fiberglass door will deliver the exceptional beauty you envision and the outstanding performance your project demands.

The beauty of wood meets outstanding performance – designed the way you want it

True Customization Capabilities for new home construction

Create the door you imagine. Choose from a huge array of contemporary and traditional designs, standard or custom colors, countless glass designs, and hardware and decorative accents. Opt for specialty features such as pivot operation, iron-look finishes, decorative grilles, and more. Doors are available in sizes up to 10’ tall.

Energy Efficiency & Robust Strength

Fiberglass doors feature a high-density core, 3-4 times denser than the core found in most fiberglass doors. This core helps provide exceptional strength and gives each door a substantial heft that feels and sounds like wood. Standard designs include ENERGY STAR® certified options (all zones), plus Wind Zone 3 certified choices for coastal applications.

Take the Dutch Door Test

Are fiberglass doors really virtually indistinguishable from real wood? To prove it, we ask visitors to our Inspiration Gallery (at our global headquarters in Charlotte, NC) to take the JELD-WEN Dutch Door Test. One-half of a divided door is wood, the other being fiberglass. But which is which? “We invite seasoned contractors and builders to tell them apart,” according to Dan Jacobs, JELD-WEN’s vice president for exterior door products. “They can’t. A JELD-WEN fiberglass door mimics wood so exactly it’s almost impossible to judge. The only people that can are our own manufacturing experts.”
