Blend the beauty of real wood with a reliable defense against rot and termites.

JELD-WEN R&D knew it wanted to take a different approach to sustainability. The patented AuraLast® pine product came out of that focus, delivering a new wood-fortifying process. AuraLast pine products are 100% real wood, not a composite, and do not rely on a chemical dip for their comprehensive Surface to Core™ protection.

Whether it’s a new build or a remodel, you want to be sure that the materials you’re using for the project are tough enough to meet the demands of the environment. Your customer’s satisfaction and ultimately your reputation depend on it. The market is full of wood options that claim to be up to the challenge. But are they?

If you’re building up north, your customers are fighting cold and wet climates. If you’re in the south, maybe it’s humidity and invasive bugs. And everyone knows how much of a beating wood can take on the coasts with wind, moisture, and salt. That’s why JELD-WEN developed the gold standard in protected wood products, AuraLast® pine.

The shortcomings of traditional protection

Fortified products have long been available, but their effectiveness tends to be limited and not necessarily great for the atmosphere or environment. Traditional alternatives commonly rely on a dip treatment during which the wood is submerged into a solvent-based chemical bath. Unfortunately, this process can only deliver a shallow coating of the chemical on the surface of the wood.

As a result, milling, sanding, or the simple rigors of weather can still create an entry point through which rot can gain a foothold and spread. If this limitation is shared with the homeowner, they are left to wonder if their investment in such materials is indeed worth it. They’re also denied the peace of mind they seek for their home, and builders cannot make accurate predictions about product reliability and longevity.

The advanced protection of AuraLast pine

JELD-WEN R&D knew it wanted to take a different approach to sustainability. The patented AuraLast pine product came out of that focus, delivering a new wood-fortifying process. AuraLast pine products are 100% real wood, not a composite, and do not rely on a chemical dip for their comprehensive Surface to Core™ protection.

Crafted with AuraLast® pine, JELD-WEN® wood windows are engineered to protect against termites, wood rot, and water damage.

More effective

AuraLast pine uses a water-based, vacuum-pressure process during which its defensive ingredients are actually absorbed throughout the entirety of the wood. That means it’s protected from the surface to the core of the wood, inside out, against rot and other threats. The treatment safeguards wood from decay and water damage, including avoiding the swelling and sticking that can happen if windows become saturated. AuraLast pine protects the window from condensation on the inside and rain on the outside. It safeguards the wood during installation as well.

The vacuum-pressure process means that AuraLast pine provides virtually 100% penetration of the protective ingredients ― from the surface to the core.

Just as important, AuraLast pine also combats the destructive impacts of termites. In one example of the product’s incredible effectiveness, a small test house was built in Hawaii using traditional building materials and wood windows made from AuraLast pine and placed atop a termite mound. After mere months, the structure had been destroyed ― except for the windows.

If you don’t think that termites are an issue where you live, keep in mind that these destructive insects are now found in every state except Alaska, causing about $1.5 billion worth of damage every year.

JELD-WEN built a small structure with standard wood and an AuraLast® pine window. Termites totally destroyed the structure, while the AuraLast pine window remained undamaged.

More environmentally sensitive

What’s more, because it uses a water-based method vs. a chemical bath, AuraLast pine is better for the atmosphere. Its unique process releases 96% fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the manufacturing process compared to traditional dip treatments. It’s worth noting that the water-based treatment also adds no color or odor to the wood.

The product’s strength and durability earned AuraLast pine the highest performance levels to withstand wood rot as measured by the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) industry standard.

Backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty

Further securing the homeowner’s confidence, AuraLast pine components come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty that lasts as long as your customer owns their home. That kind of commitment to product performance can inspire invaluable peace of mind among your clients.
